We call this design the Manju Quilt because years ago Little Manju Madam made the first one.

Cotton khadi + natural dyes + hand stitch

Stitched by Ramesh Madam.

Part of our “Waste not, Want not Series” turning our offcuts from production into beautiful heirlooms.  Backing is tie and dye effect Madder natural dye chocolate coloured.

Indigo mud resist print by Mr Girish using his traditional ferment indigo vat, plain coloured dyed at our home in natural plant indigo vat.

Boro inspired, this is stitched raw edge, so with time you get a lovely texture to the surface.

Description

Waste not, Want not Quilts.

A tradition from the past, giving work to women and a new life to cloth leftovers in the present to create heirlooms to take into your future.
All quilts are based on khadi and hand weaves. Some have plain backs, some really follow the idea of using up left overs and have printed backs.
Tops are all hand work, we have a file of ideas, pack a bag of colours and hand it over to our Stitching Ladies and let them work with it.

We go for a folk art type approach, work by eye, keep it nice but no exact measurements or repeating patterns.

Each quilt is
– same, same idea but individual
– labelled with the name of the maker
– we will start a quilt diary on the site….. one day 😘

If you would like to request a bespoke quilt contact us…. understand it will be same, same but different and will take time, think 2 to 3 months.
