Volunteers

Our grateful thanks to….

  • Hot, hot July 2018 and Leila didn’t let it phase her as she whipped our sample sheets into order. So much work and we continue to appreciate it everyday. A pleasure to celebrate her birthday with her.

March 2018 Nicole from Australia and Heloise from France started and really got stuck into bringing order to our storeroom for finished goods, creating an inventory. This was a huge task and they worked long hours, always smiling and determined to get it done. sssssooooooo much organization, so much appreciated and system still running well.

Heloise continued after Nicole resumed her travels, finishing off the organization and setting up files on our new tablet and then started the process of training our women to maintain inventory on line. Huge task- so appreciate her help.

Feb 2018 Gaelle of Anjelms was in to work on designs

whilst her Mum Mary-Yvonne pulled up a cushion and had a great time helping our gang

Feb 2018 Kumal and Keiran, Fashion students from Delhi joined us for the month- we were super busy and they fitted in and worked like crazy. We would be very pleased to have them back any time.

April, 2017 Aude from France was a great help documenting our products and helping set up a system to make this information easily available to our clients. Big thanks

March, 2017 Emma from Australia brought a ray of sunshine and lots of organization- our blocks are all numbered and catalogued, lots of help with sorting files and much enthusiasm

Sophie and Owen, Dec 2016, they excelled at excel and created for us workable production data sheets and inventory. The amount of head scratching necessary to get an elegant sheet worked out is huge! A big undertaking and we are full of gratitude

Happy to host volunteers for workshop experience

We are a busy workshop

  • we focus on hand stitch and women’s work and over time have evolved a training and on going quality practice that works works well.
  •  we source supplies from across India with an eye to artisan work and direct contact with the artisans who produce the goods
  •  we have an inhouse blockprint studio
  • and a machine room to finsih off our work.
  • as you can imagine our office is busy- client contact, monitoring production, payments and income, social media, looking for sale opportunities, dreaming of setting up a local library

What might you do as a volunteer/ intern?

Let us set a goal or discuss ideas in the lead up to your visit.

Please note how we operate in our area and expectations we have of any volunteers we host.

Please take a moment to read through.

We plan to fit in to our local community, empower a business like and friendly workspace, we stay away from politics, charity and stirring up trouble.

We think we can bring change by setting an example of a team working together without social hierarchy intruding [caste/ gender] and a safe place to work all day away from the pressures of home and community expectations.

We are conservative in our dress, so fit in with local dress codes and ask you to be conscious of what you wear at the workshop, longer trousers, no cleavage etc

Ideas we would love to develop

  • designs for home wares
  • designs utilising re-cycled saris and hand stitch
  • social media development
  • marketing
  • just about every aspect of our business can use an extra pair of hands!
